Facebook did not respond to TikTok's response

The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has written to Facebook, TikTok and other social media seeking an explanation for spreading rumors and offensive content (photos and videos) on the Internet. This explanation is to be given by July 31. But none of the companies except TikTok responded to the government's email.

State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak gave this information to reporters after a review meeting organized on cyber security at ICT Tower in Agargaon of the capital on Tuesday (July 30).

The state minister said, we have given time to Facebook, YouTube, TikTok till tomorrow (July 31). We expected them to give written explanation. But we have not yet received any written or verbal explanation from them.

“They (TikTik) are very sincere about this,” he said, stating that only TikTok has given a reply to the e-mail. Wants to support the government. They also want to give explanations. The remaining two i.e. Meta and YouTube did not respond.

However, Junaid Ahmed Palak said that he is still optimistic about getting the response from Facebook and YouTube.

When asked when Facebook and other social media will be opened, the state minister for information technology said, if their explanation is satisfactory, we will open it soon.

Palak said that Facebook and YouTube and other social media have been asked to know about Bangladesh's laws, constitution and how they are maintaining their own policies and community guidelines or not at all.

On the night of July 18, internet services were shut down across the country when violence spread across the country centered on the quota reform movement. Limited broadband internet service was launched last Tuesday (July 23) night after being closed for five days. And after being closed for 10 days, the mobile internet service started on Sunday (July 28) around 3 pm. However, since July 18, Facebook, WhatsApp, TikTok have been closed. Consumers reported that they are having problems using this app from mobile even if they watch YouTube on broadband.
