Sharjah. India had a chance to reach the semi-finals on its own by defeating Australia in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup. The team failed to do so and now it will have to pray for a normal victory for Pakistan in the match against New Zealand. Indian captain Harmanpreet said after losing to the Australian team in the 'do or die' Group A match on Sunday that they did not give away runs easily.
Six-time champion Australia entered the knockout after defeating India by nine runs. India lost after coming close to the target due to the half-century of Harmanpreet (54 not out). After the match, Harmanpreet said, “I think their entire team contributed, they were not dependent on one or two players. They have many all-rounders who contributed. We had planned well and we remained in the match till the end. They did not give runs easily and it became difficult for us.
Praising all-rounder Radha Yadav, Harmanpreet said, “Radha bowled and fielded very well. This target could have been achieved. We tried whatever was in our hands, but some things are not in your control.
Australia's acting captain Tahlia McGrath said, “We wanted to win every match. India put up a good fight, but our players played well, I am proud of them. Today the role of many players was different, but they did their job. We were constantly talking about what could be a good score on this wicket. We knew that we had depth in our batting and we could play with complete freedom.
