New DelhiFormer India cricketer Praveen Amre on Saturday said that the memorial of great cricket coach Ramakant Achrekar at Shivaji Park will serve as an inspiration for the next generation of cricketers. Great cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and politician Raj Thackeray will unveil this memorial built at gate number five on December 3. The memorial had received the green signal from the Maharashtra government in August this year.
Ramakant Vitthal Achrekar was born in 1932. He was the Indian cricket coach in Mumbai. He said goodbye to the world in the year 2019. He has given a lot of training to young cricketers at Shivaji Park in Dadar, Mumbai. Especially Sachin Tendulkar. Sachin also learned cricket under his coaching. Ramakant has also been a selector for Mumbai cricket team. In the year 2010, he was awarded Padma Shri.
“It's really a big moment for us because we all know what he has contributed to us,” Amre told PTI during an event to announce the unveiling of the memorial. Not only as cricketers but our career as coaches has also been successful because of our guru Achrekar sir.
He said, “This is what we wanted because our guru always lived in Shivaji Park. They called it 'Karmabhumi' and the memorial is being unveiled here. This is the biggest thing for us and it can be inspiring for the new generation.
