Pakistani legend Hanif Mohammad died in 2016. Now one of his teammate Mohammad Nazir has gone to the land of no return. Nazir was 78 years old at the time of his death.
Mohammad Nazir passed away today after a long illness in Lahore. He is also known as Nazir Junior. He made his Test debut against New Zealand in Karachi in October 1969. He took 7 wickets for 99 runs in the first innings on Karachi's spin-friendly pitch. He scored 29 and 17 runs in the first and second innings. He was unbeaten in both innings. New Zealand-Pakistan was a drawn test. This match was the last Test of the legendary Hanif. Hanif's younger brother Sadiq Mohammad's first Test career.
PCB mourned Nazir's death on their official X handle. In a statement, PCB said, 'PCB is saddened by the death of former Test cricketer and umpire Mohammad Nazir. He played 14 Tests and 4 ODIs for Pakistan from 1969 to 1984. He took 37 wickets in international cricket. Worked as an umpire in 5 Tests and 15 ODIs. PCB extends its heartfelt condolences to his friends and family.'
He scored 144 runs at an average of 18 in 14 Tests. His Test career highest score of 29 in his debut innings against New Zealand. However, he scored 4 runs in 4 ODIs. Interestingly, in the three innings he batted in ODIs, he was unbeaten in all three. However, he has played more matches in List 'A' and First Class cricket than international cricket. He scored 4242 runs at an average of 22.20 in 180 first-class matches. Scored 2 centuries. Scored 258 runs in 29 List 'A' cricket matches.
