New Delhi. Pakistan Cricket Board does not know how to retain big players. With much fanfare, South African legend Gary Kirsten was made the limited overs format coach of the Pakistan cricket team. The board had signed a 2-year contract with this champion coach but failed to keep him even for 6 months. What Pakistan fans feared happened. Gary resigned from the post due to conflict with PCB.
In April this year, Gary Kirsten was made the ODI and T20 coach of the Pakistan cricket team, while former Australian fast bowler Jason Gillispie was given the responsibility of the Test team. Within 6 months, Kirsten resigned from the post of coach, being unhappy with the attitude of PCB. He did not make any public statement, but it is understood that he is disappointed with the recent developments.
Why did Gary Kirsten get angry?
According to the report of ESPNcricinfo, one of the reasons for the delay in announcing the team and the new limited overs captain was the vigorous discussions within the board. Kirsten wanted her opinion to also be given importance. When the name of the new captain Mohammad Rizwan was announced in a press conference in Lahore, Kirsten was not in Pakistan at that time. Only new selection committee member Aaqib Javed and new captain and vice-captain Salman Aga were present along with PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
Earthquake in Pakistan cricket, coach Gary Kirsten resigned, could not last even 6 months
Coach Gary Kirsten decided to step down due to differences with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials. During the ICC T20 World Cup, he had raised questions on the players of Pakistan team. Gary had clearly said that there is no unity in the team. The players do not get along with each other.
Made India world champion
Under the coaching of Gary Kirsten, India won the ODI World Cup title in 2011. He worked closely with Mahendra Singh Dhoni. There was never any mention of any differences between him with BCCI or captain Dhoni. While being the coach in India, Gary was made a part of the team selection and was given the freedom to field players in the series with the captain as per his wish. He remained associated with the team from 2008 to 2011.
Kirsten can return to Gujarat
This former South African batsman was working as a batting coach with the Indian Premier League franchise Gujarat Titans before joining the Pakistan team. The team was included in the tournament for the first time in 2022. Kirsten, along with head coach Ashish Nehra, made a brilliant plan and the team surprised everyone by winning the IPL trophy.
