Karachi. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will not accept 'hybrid model' for the Champions Trophy. PCB made this clear to the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Thursday. The PCB has also asked the world governing body not to discuss the option in the board meeting to be held on Friday.
India has refused to send its team to play in the tournament in Pakistan. After this, ICC has called a virtual meeting of the executive members to resolve the issues related to the Champions Trophy programme. A source said, 'I can confirm that the PCB has told the ICC a few hours ago that the 'hybrid model' of the tournament is not acceptable.'
The PCB is opposed to the 'hybrid model' and has advised the ICC to find some other option to organize the Champions Trophy. Pakistan Board believes that playing in 'hybrid model' would mean giving preference to India. The source said, 'I can confirm that initially if the Indian team could not play in Pakistan, then the PCB had considered the possibility of playing in a 'hybrid model' in this situation. But in the future, till 2031 (ODI World Cup in India and Bangladesh), all ICC tournaments to be held in India will be played in 'hybrid model' only because Pakistan will not play in India.
Another source confirmed that the PCB has also reminded the ICC to inform it whether the BCCI had submitted a letter in writing from its government stating that the Indian team was not given clearance to play in Pakistan. . The source said, 'Under ICC rules, if a team says that its government is not allowing it to play in another country on any grounds, then the board will have to submit the instructions of its government in writing, which we have not done yet.
