The ODI series against Ireland at Mirpur Sher Bangla Stadium has ended. Bangladesh won all three matches by showing power. The three-match T20 series will begin on December 5 at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced the squad for the first two matches in this series on Monday afternoon. Sharmin Akhtar Supta, the highest run scorer in the ODI series, has returned to the T20 team after two years.
Sharmin last played T20 in December 2022. Due to the performance, he was not seen in T20 after that. He got a chance in the T20 series by performing well in the ODI series against Ireland. Sharmin collected 211 runs in two half-centuries. He got success by changing his batting style. Selector Sajjad Ahmed Shiponto sees Sharmin as an automatic choice now.
Sajjad said about taking Sharmin in the squad, 'You can say reward. He basically started playing well from the National League. His intention has changed. Has batted 3/4 in the National League with a very positive mindset. His performance inspired me to back him. Not only in the T20 format of the National League, but also in the practice matches that we had, they performed well. You have seen the reflection of that in the ODI series. Sharmin has now become an automatic choice in ODIs and T20s.
Several players have been left out of the squad for the latest T20 series. Besides, several people have been sent to rest. Sathi Rani is absent due to injury. Instead, Sharmin got a chance in the squad. Left-arm spinner Sanjida Akhtar got a cloudy chance in place of pacer Disha Biswas. Marufa Akhtar and Sultana Khatun have been rested. Instead of them, Jannatul Sumna and Fariha Islam Thirsna got a chance.
Selector Sajjad said about the squad for the T20 series against Ireland, 'We played the last T20 in the United Arab Emirates. We had more pace bowlers there. Now we will play in Sylhet, naturally we have made a spin-based squad in home conditions. Due to this, there have been several changes in the squad.
