Last year, Shakib expressed his desire to end his international cricket career with the 2025 Champions Trophy. Discussions were going on for some time whether Shakib will be in the ICC event or not. In the end, the star all-rounder of Bangladesh did not get a place in the Champions Trophy team.
Shakib's time is not going well since 2024. He has been irregular in international cricket since August last year. Later, Shakib could not pass the bowling correction test at Loughborough University, Sri Ramachandra Center for Sports Science in Chennai – two places. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed it in an official statement yesterday.
When Shakib was left out of the Champions Trophy squad today, Lipu also mentioned his (Shakib's) failure in bowling action. The BCB selector said, 'As you all know, Shakib took the test to overcome the problem he is having with his legitimate bowling action. Unfortunately due to bad test result he can only play as a batsman in cricket. Therefore, in the selection process, Shakib's position was Batter Shakib and we could not give him a place in the 15-man team as a batter while arranging the team's combination.
