New Delhi. After the Indian cricket team's shameful defeat against New Zealand, Sachin Tendulkar has raised questions on the preparation of Team India. The Master Blaster clearly said that it seemed as if the great batsmen of the Indian team had come out to play without any preparation. Now it is coming to light that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were offered by BCCI to participate in Duleep Trophy for preparation before the Test series.
New Zealand showed a mirror to India before the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. For the first time, the Kiwi team defeated India in a Test series in India. India had to face whitewash in the Test series on home ground. In the Mumbai Test, the Indian batting order fell apart like a pack of cards while chasing an easy target of 147 runs. India lost the third and final test by 25 runs. Rishabh Pant struggled alone and played a courageous inning of 64 runs.
According to the report of Indian Express, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja were given a chance to play in the Duleep Trophy by the selection committee led by chief selector Ajit Agarkar. All of them were offered to be selected in the team but they kept themselves away from the competition citing fatigue.
KL Rahul, Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant, who were included in the team selected against New Zealand, took part in this tournament to prepare. A camp was organized in Chennai before the five home Test matches against Bangladesh and New Zealand. Under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, the Indian team won the series against Bangladesh 2-0 but the Kiwi team made a clean sweep.
