Rumana-Supta's idea about umpires changed

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) recently organized a training and skill enhancement course for new umpires. The umpires who passed the course of BCB, the certificate ceremony was held at the media block of Mirpur Sher Bangla Stadium. BCB president Farooq Ahmed was present as the chief guest. Young umpires were waiting for him. Three cricketers of the national team were suddenly found among them. Those who have completed the umpiring course without retiring from the national team.

Three women's team cricketers Rumana Ahmed, Sharmin Akhter Supta and Shamima Sultana are sitting on the blazer of the national team. They also participated in the course of umpiring and passed. A total of 98 boys and girls passed the course. Supta came second among them. The three of them have played many matches together in international matches. Today, three people did the umpiring course together.

Basically, two cricketers participated in this 5-day course to stay connected with cricket even after their playing career and to understand the rules of the game a little better.

Supta said, 'Many people including Fahim sir (Nazmul Abedin Fahim) told me to hold these sports-related courses outside of sports. I was free at that time, so I did it. I got to know a lot. Especially dead balls, runouts, there are many things, which we could not know even after playing for a long time. There is such an idea that one can stay with cricket even after leaving the game. Apart from that, if I know the rules well, this knowledge will help me as a player as well.'

All-rounder Rumana said that doubts will be reduced with the decision of the umpires, 'As a bowler, it will be very useful for me to understand the LBW out, I can also understand at the time of batting whether the review should be taken or not. Umpires actually have to give a decision very quickly, many times we misunderstand the umpires. Now we also understand their side.'

Supta also told the story of his learning of umpiring, 'One day I was visiting Debashish sir in the medical wing of BCB. Then Fahim sir told me about this course, said that if not educated girls like us, who will come? That's why come. Learned a lot. Now it seems that the umpires have more patience. After doing this course, I can easily accept the umpire's decisions.'

Incidentally, 944 applied for the umpiring training course, out of which 387 were given an opportunity to participate in the aptitude test. From there, 117 people were selected for the 5-day training, out of which 98 passed the course successfully.

The course was conducted by former cricketer and umpire Enamul Haque Moni, umpire Masudur Rahman Mukul and chief match referee Rakibul Hasan.

BCB Director Nazmul Abedin Fahim, Iftekhar Ahmed Mithu, Elite Panel Umpire Sharfuddaula Ibn Shaheed Saikat, Umpire Masudur Rahman Mukul and Enamul Haque Moni were present at the certification ceremony on Wednesday. BCB president Farooq presented the certificate as the chief guest.
