Not the World Cup, but Bangladesh's eyes on winning the series

To play directly in the 2025 Women's ODI World Cup, Bangladesh must win the three-match ODI series against the West Indies. Negara Sultana Jyotira, who crashed out in the first match, kept their chances alive by winning the second match. If they win the third match of the series, they will directly confirm the ticket to the World Cup. However, captain Niger Sultana Jyoti has said that they are not looking to adjust the equation around the World Cup. Their only goal is to win the series on foreign soil. Before this, Bangladesh won the series once outside the country against Zimbabwe. However, there is no record of winning a series against an established team.

“I'm not thinking about the equation yet,” Niger captain Sultana Jyoti said in a BCB video message after the second ODI loss to the Caribbean on Wednesday. The team turned around a day after losing the first match, that's the most important thing. It will be very useful for us. Two points were important. Momentum is most important. The team got it. There will be an attempt to win the series in the last match. We have never won a series away from home. If we can achieve it, it will be a big milestone for our team.'

Bangladesh scored 184 runs batting earlier on Wednesday. The host West Indies were bowled out for 124 runs in 35 overs, playing for this purpose on the batting-friendly wicket of St. Kitts. The captain said that such a victory came with full faith in his bowling ability, 'Firstly, I think the team had faith. Although the run is very less. It will be very difficult for the bowlers if they do not score more than two hundred runs on these wickets. But when we entered the field, we were saying before that, everyone should believe in victory. Because, if I can keep the ball in place, take wickets in time according to the plan, then (winning) is possible.'

While the other batsmen failed to bat, captain Jyoti was brilliant. His innings of 68 runs off 120 balls played an important role. “Our plan was to bowl first,” said the wicketkeeper-batsman, who was happy to contribute to the team. When we lost the toss and went into bat, because of the good track, our target was 200 plus runs. Couldn't do that, I tried to kind of go out and play a lot more ball and settle down. Now at the end of the day it seems, the runs were more important for the team and the team is more than happy to contribute.'

Although the batting was not very good, Bangladesh was excellent in fielding as well as bowling. That's what Jyoti recalled, 'The way every bowler, every fielder gave 110 shares and tried, it was amazing. Such a victory has been possible due to everyone's efforts.'
