England's World Cup-winning cricketer Moeen Ali has received an honorary doctorate from Coventry University. Now he is Dr. Moin Ali.
After a long career for Worcestershire, the all-rounder played for their rivals Warwickshire. He was presented with the honor at a ceremony at Coventry Cathedral.
The university has conferred this award on Moeen in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the game of cricket.
Born in Birmingham, the former England captain played 68 Tests, 138 ODIs and 92 T20Is. He also won the ODI World Cup in 2019 and T20 World Cup in 2022.
Moeen, who led England in 13 matches, said spending the day with other students was special for him.
The all-rounder, who retired from international cricket last September, said, 'Making them motivated and confident to do what they want to do has been a big part of my journey. I tried my best. I finished playing for England. Now many people come to me and say, 'You played, the way you played, that's why my children play, I play.' This is the true success of my cricket career.'
Moeen also said that the hat-trick against South Africa at the Oval in 2017 was the best moment of his international career.
