South Africa have a chance to avenge the unfortunate loss of 7 runs in the T20 World Cup final last June. They will play a four-match T20I series at home from November 8. For this reason, Cricket South Africa announced the return of batting stars David Miller and Einrich Klaasen.
Besides, fast bowler Marco Jansen and left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj are also returning to the T20 team. The four were absent from the shared series against Ireland last September. They were busy playing in the professional franchise league.
Coach Rob Walter announced an almost full strength squad but rested Kagiso Rabada ahead of the four home Tests. Fast bowler Gerald Coetzee has been included as he recovers from a side strain.
The two uncapped players in the team are all-rounders Mihlali Mpongwana and Andile Simelane.
Apart from Rabada, Quinton de Kock and Henrik Norkie, who played in the World Cup final, have not been included in the squad for the upcoming series. None of them are under contract with Cricket South Africa. Walter said they had a chance to take Norkie. But he has been kept out to test the young fast bowlers. On the other hand, the 31-year-old de Kock was not considered by the selectors. The coach said that the discussion will take place only if he wants to play in international cricket.
South African squad: Aiden Markram (captain), Otneil Bartman, Gerald Coetzee, Donovan Ferreira, Riza Hendricks, Marco Janssen, Einrich Klaassen, Patrick Kruger, Keshab Maharaj, David Miller, Mihlali Mpongwana, Nkaba Peter, Ryan Rickelton, Andile Simelen, Lutho Sipamala (for the third and fourth matches) and Tristan Stubbs.
