Man City also lost to Liverpool

Manchester City could not overcome the bad times. They won seven matches in a row in all competitions. The four-time Premier League champions also suffered a bitter defeat against Liverpool at Anfield.

Liverpool beat Man City 2-0 with goals from Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah on Sunday. They maintained the top position by leading by 9 points in a great victory against their arch rivals.

Manchester City have lost four consecutive league matches for the first time since 2008. That dropped Pep Guardiola's team to fifth place in the table. Their gap with Liverpool increased to 11 points.

Liverpool faced Man City with the motivation of defeating Real Madrid in the Champions League a few days ago. They could have sealed the match before halftime. Having wasted several chances, the first half ended with a 1-0 lead. One of Virgil von Dijk's two heads hits the post.

The first goal came in the 12th minute. Salah's low cross from the right wing caught on to Trent Alexander-Arnold's long pass and fell to Gakpo's feet, leaving Man City keeper Stefan Ortega at a loss. Gakpo shakes the net from the backpost, fooling him.

Salah ruined Man City's hopes of a comeback. Ortega dropped Luis Diaz in the box. The Egyptian forward made Anfield roar with goals.
