Gary Kersten has resigned as Pakistan's white ball coach. Appointed on a two-year contract in April 2024. But he was able to stay in office for less than six months!
Since the cancellation of the selection powers, the new coach of Pakistan, Kirsten, Jason Gillespie and the board have started trouble. Apart from the coaches, that power is now only in the hands of the selection committee. Gillespie could not hide his surprise at the incident ahead of the third Test. Says he is now only a “match-day analyst” and “not contracted for that”.
Kirsten, however, has not commented publicly. However, it is said that he was unhappy with this incident. According to ESPNcricinfo, Kirsten was keen to give his opinion on the announcement of the new team and new limited-overs captain. But when the name of the new captain Mohammad Rizwan was announced in the press conference, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi was accompanied by the new selection committee member Aqib Javed. Kirsten was not even in the country at the time of such a decision.
Basically, the coaches felt that the decision of the board, due to the increasing influence of the current selection committee, they were neglected! The PCB announced the new selection panel after Pakistan lost the first Test against England. Which happened for the third time in three months!
It is not yet clear who will replace Kirsten for the tour of Australia and Zimbabwe. Pakistan's tour of Australia begins in six days, with the first ODI in Melbourne on November 4.
