The reigning champions Bashundhara Kings got a hard-earned victory in the first match of the Federation Cup. Valerie Tit's team beat Brothers Union with a lone goal by captain Tapu Burman at the Shahid Dhirendranath Dutta Stadium in Comilla today.
Discussion about the field before the start of the match. Dhirendranath Dutta Stadium ground was not suitable for playing. The cricket pitch was raised the previous day. So the midfield seems to be a mess. Elsewhere there was little grass. Kings are satisfied with the victory in Tenetun on such a troublesome field. But the brothers tried to share the points despite the draw. In the end they couldn't do it. Played defensive football from the start but conceded one goal. And the goal came in the 69th minute of the second half. Tapu pounced on Brazilian forward Miguel Figueira Damasceno's cross and headed the ball into the net. In the rest of the time, the brothers could not repay the goal.
Despite the one-goal win, the Kings had a good start to the season. After winning the Challenge Cup, in their first match in the Premier League, Chittagong Abahani was blown away by 7-0 goals. This time the smile of victory at the beginning of the mission to retain the crown of the Federation Cup.
In another match of the day Bangladesh Police vs Fortis FC at Rafiq Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium in Mymensingh. The two teams in 'B' group started with a goalless draw.
