Hasan is chasing Shakib

Hasan Mahmood's journey in international cricket started in March 2020. However, his Test debut is in 2024. In just 8 months in the royal edition of cricket, he set one record after another. Hasan, who takes regular wickets, is now chasing Shakib Al Hasan.

Hasan set the record for the highest number of Test wickets among Bangladeshi pacers in a year on the second day of the Antigua Test yesterday. Hasan guided the three West Indies batsmen to the dressing room. The 25-year-old pacer now has 26 wickets in his 8-Test career. Earlier in 2008, Shahadat Hossain Rajeev had made the feat of taking the maximum 23 wickets among the pacers of Bangladesh. Besides, Shakib took 27 wickets each in Tests in 2010 and 2014.

The fact that Hasan has come to reign in Tests was proved in his debut Test in Chittagong. He took 6 wickets in the second Test of the series against Sri Lanka. 4 of which came in the second innings. But he feels more comfortable outside the house than inside. He has 7 wickets in Tests in Bangladesh so far. The 24-year-old Bangladesh pacer has taken 17 wickets abroad in the royal edition of cricket.

Has taken 5 wickets twice in an innings in 8 Test career and both times outside the country. He took 5 wickets in the second innings of the second Test against Pakistan and got his name on the Honors Board of Rawalpindi. Then took 5 wickets against India in Chennai. Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant ended India's innings with the wicket of Jasprit Bumrah after India's top four batsmen.

Hasan appeared on the stage when Bangladesh were struggling for Test wickets. When everyone failed to break South Africa's seventh-wicket partnership of Kyle Vereen and Wayne Mulder in Mirpur in October this year, Hasan put a smile on the captain's face. Let's take the ongoing Bangladesh-West Indies first test in Antigua. Hasan took 2 wickets in his first two overs on the second day yesterday. After that, Hasan broke the 140-run stand of Kemar Roach and Justin Greaves for the eighth wicket.

In 2010 and 2014 Shakib took wickets like Muri Murki against Zimbabwe. However, Hasan is yet to play a Test against Zimbabwe. The 25-year-old Bangladesh pacer took 8 wickets against Pakistan. He took 6 wickets each against India and Sri Lanka. Hasan will break Shakib's old record in the ongoing Test series against the West Indies due to the way he is running at breakneck speed. If not in Antigua, then there is Jamaica. The second Test of the Bangladesh-West Indies series will begin on November 30 in Jamaica. Only time will tell when and where Hasan broke Shakib's record by taking 2 wickets.

Shakib's absence in the ongoing Test series against the West Indies seems to have been a 'gift' to Hasan. Shakib, irregular in international cricket, has taken 13 wickets in 5 Tests this year. The star all-rounder of Bangladesh knows how to shine when needed, even though he is not very good at bowling. In that case, Hasan's wicket count would have decreased a little more.

Shakib's record of taking the highest wickets in Tests in one year is not Shakib's. In 2018, Taijul Islam has the record of taking the highest wicket in the royal edition of cricket in Bangladesh with 43 wickets in 7 Tests.
