After 20 years of long playing career, Angel Di Maria has started to decide what to do. He will not leave if he gets a chance to become a coach. Argentina's World Cup-winning playmaker has started studying for it.
Di Maria, who won the 2022 World Cup, bid farewell to international football after winning his second Copa America trophy last July. He is currently playing for Portuguese club Benfica. He has five goals and two assists in 14 matches this season. He is still giving his best. Meanwhile, he is preparing to become a coach.
In an interview with Clunk Media published on Monday, Di Maria said, 'I am taking a course to become a coach. If the opportunity comes, I'm doing it. From the age of 30 I started to look at football differently and analyze it.'
He further said, 'I started thinking not only from the player's point of view, but also from the coach's point of view. I know that coaching is much more difficult because it takes a lot of time. As a player you just practice, then go home.'
The Argentine, who has a contract with Benfica until June 2025, added, 'When I retire, I want to spend some time with my family. But then it might be.'
