Melbourne. Before the Border Gavaskar Trophy to be played against India, the Australian team has suffered a big blow. The team's star all-rounder Cameron Green is out of the entire series due to injury. Green will not be part of the Border Gavaskar Trophy Test series against India due to a stress fracture in the spine. This 25 year old player will undergo an operation on his back, which will take him six months to recover. He came to know about this during his visit to Britain last month.
Cricket Australia said in a statement issued on Monday, 'It is common for fast bowlers to have stress fractures in the spine but there is some problem in the area near Cameron's fracture which can be considered the cause of the injury. Green's stay out for six months means that he will not be able to play not only in the Border Gavaskar Trophy but also in the tour of Sri Lanka in February and the Champions Trophy. His playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) is also doubtful. Fast bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah, James Pattinson, Jason Behrendorff and Ben Dwarshuis have also undergone this type of operation and Green also chose the same option.
Cricket Australia said, “After discussion with the doctors, it was decided that Green would benefit from surgery.” Before this, this type of operation of many fast bowlers has been successful. It will take about six months to recover from this.
The first match of the five-Test series between India and Australia will be played in Perth from November 22. Green's absence means that Australia will have to change its batting order. Green returned to the Test team after opener David Warner retired earlier this year. For this reason Steve Smith had to start the innings. Smith was not successful as an opening batsman and against India he may again be fielded at his preferred number four position.
