Despite losing consecutive matches in the Champions League, Real Madrid continued to win in La Liga. The third win in a row saw them move up to number two in the league points table. Most relieved, Kylian Mbappe scored. His performance in front of goal was questionable. Jude Bellingham also found the net with him in the 2-0 win over Getafe at the Santiago Bernabeu.
In this victory, Real is in second place with 33 points in 14 matches. They played one match less than Barcelona (34) and are one point behind. Madrid club has moved up to number two after beating Atletico Madrid (32).
Real scored both goals in the first half. Bellingham netted from a penalty in the 30th minute. Mbappe scored after eight minutes. Getafe could have shared the points had the goal posts not been blocked twice in the second half.
In the 27th minute, David Soria punched back Antonio Rudiger's cross before Bellingham headed it.
The penalty whistle blew in the next minute. Rudiger was fouled in the box by Allan Niall as he cleared the ball from a corner. Bellingham took the penalty kick. The English midfielder coolly slotted the ball between the posts. It was his third league goal this season.
Later, Getafe had to pay for the gap in defense. Bellingham found Mbappe. The French forward shook the net with a curved shot after controlling the ball inside the box. It was his 10th goal in all competitions, eighth in the league. Mbappe is one more away from the two hundredth goal in the top league. He scored 199 goals in top domestic football for AS Monaco (16), PSG (175) and Real (8).
In the 50th minute, the penalty whistle blew again for Real. Mbappe's shot hits Juan Berrocal's arm. VAR check changes the decision. The ball hit his leg before it hit his hand.
After six minutes, Getafe substitute Christantas Uch's shot hit the near post and went wide.
Real went very close to a third goal but failed due to missed chances by Rodrigo and Mbappe. Getafe were unable to reduce the deficit in the 85th minute when a shot from John Patrick hit the post.
At the end, Mbappe hit the ball past the goal. Real could not increase the gap.
