The ICC Women's ODI World Cup will be held in India in 2025. Bangladeshi girls face important equations to ensure direct participation. In the ODI series, Ireland should be whitewashed in the ODI series by 3-0. Bangladesh will get a chance to avoid qualifying only if this target is met.
At the sponsor announcement ceremony of Bangladesh-Ireland women's cricket series in Mirpur today, Habibul Bashar Sumon, head of BCB's women's wing, said, 'Our main goal is to win this series by 3-0. We have the advantage of playing at home. Our team is very confident as the World Cup is in the subcontinent. We want to take advantage of this opportunity and fulfill our dream of playing in the World Cup. Our next series is three ODIs against the West Indies. But these are the next things. The Ireland series is now ahead of us. We are focusing on this series.'
In the event, BCB Director Nazmul Abedin Fahim informed about BCB's new plan for the development of Bangladesh women's cricket. He said, 'Earlier we did not do enough to strengthen women's cricket. However, this time I have taken the initiative to build a pipeline. Sarwar Imran, one of the best coaches in the country, has been appointed as the coach of the U-19 women's cricket team. Under-19 team is being prepared by camping at BKSP. We are planning to work with the U-16 team as well.'
BCB has undertaken some other activities for the promotion of women's cricket. Fahim said that the senior cricketers of the national team will visit different schools and colleges of the country to take initiative to interest girls in cricket. There are also plans to increase the number of leagues and matches. He said, 'We want our women cricketers to get the opportunity to play at least 40-50 matches a year. If this can be done, the quality of women's cricket will improve rapidly. We can build a better team in the future.'
