After the recent political transition, serious allegations have surfaced against Dhaka District Jubo Dal president Yasin Ferdous Murad.
He has reportedly been bringing back known Awami League leaders, associates, and those who had previously defected to the Awami League, granting them political rehabilitation within the BNP.
This move has created deep resentment and division within the local BNP. Sources say Murad has been doing so to boost his own political influence and grassroots support.
Awami League loyalists return under Murad’s shadow
Individuals previously active in Awami League politics are now joining BNP programmes under Murad’s leadership. One such figure is MA Jalil, a former general secretary of Dhamrai Upazila BNP, who left the party in 2018 after presenting flowers to former Awami League MP Benazir Ahmed.
He had been active in Awami League programmes since then. After the government’s fall in 2024, Jalil rejoined BNP activities through Murad.
Other identified figures include Nure Alam Siddique Nannu — a Jubo League leader close to ex-MP Benazir Ahmed — who joined Murad’s programmes after August 5 despite being accused in a police assault and robbery case.
Ramizur Rahman Roma, who campaigned for Awami League’s boat candidate Benazir Ahmed during the 2024 “dummy election” and was elected UP chairman under the Awami regime, has also returned to BNP through Murad.

Others joining Murad’s camp include former Awami League-leaning Dhamrai municipal leader Naimur Fardun (aspiring for BNP’s mayoral nomination), former Nannar Union Jubo League vice-president Abdur Razzak (once arrested in a student murder case), and Awami League workers Roman and Sabuj. They are now participating in BNP programmes under Murad’s banner. Tulamiah and Azizul Haque — vice presidents of Union BNP — who once joined Awami League events with Abdul Kader Mollah and Jubo League leader Khokon Munshi, have also shifted allegiance to Murad.
Awami League-linked elements accused in clashes and killing
This wave of “rehabilitation” has escalated internal conflict within the local BNP. In Gangutia Union, a dispute over control of local business erupted between Murad’s close aide, Jubo League leader Khokon Munshi, and BNP’s Tamiz Uddin faction.
During the clash, BNP’s organising secretary Mofiqul Islam was injured with sharp weapons, and another activist named Abul Kashem was killed.
Local BNP leaders allege that Awami League-linked figures close to Murad were behind the killing. Police sources in Dhamrai have also acknowledged that Murad’s followers were among the accused.
Party feud prompts calls for higher-level intervention
Murad, who aspires to be BNP’s candidate from Dhamrai in the next parliamentary election, has been avoiding joint programmes with Dhamrai Upazila BNP president Tamiz Uddin and Samsul Islam, creating a parallel faction within the party.
Many fear that this internal rift could jeopardise party unity ahead of the next election.
Dhamrai Upazila BNP president Tamiz Uddin claimed that Murad is bringing controversial figures into the fold under the pretext of “strengthening the organisation,” even though their loyalty to Awami League is well-known.
He urged the BNP’s central high command to stop this process of political rehabilitation and resolve the growing division.
Contacted, Murad said he is not adapting Awami League leaders, they are non political and have organisational capacity.
