Today i.e. on October 17, the Sensex closed at 81,006 with a fall of 494 points. Nifty also fell by 221 points, it closed at the level of 24,749. At the same time, BSE Small Cap fell by 814 points and closed at the level of 56,589.
Out of 30 Sensex stocks, 21 declined and 9 rose. Out of 50 Nifty stocks, 41 declined and 9 rose. Except the IT sector of NSE, all sectors closed with a decline. Realty sector fell the most by 3.76%.
Asian markets also declined
- HDFC Bank, Mahindra & Mahindra, Bharti Airtel and ICICI Bank were the biggest losers in the market. Whereas, Infosys, Larsen & Toubro and Tech Mahindra pulled the market higher.
- In the Asian market, Japan's Nikkei fell by 0.69%. Korea's Kospi closed down by 0.041% and China's Shanghai Composite fell by 1.05%.
- On October 16, America's Dow Jones rose 0.79% to 43,077 and Nasdaq closed 0.28% to 18,367. The S&P 500 also gained 0.47%.
- According to NSE data, foreign investors (FIIs) sold shares worth ₹3,435 crore on October 16. During this period, domestic investors (DIIs) bought shares worth ₹ 2,256 crore.
