- Food Prices, Veg Thali Cost Goes Up 11% In September Due To High Vegetable Prices, CRISIL RRR, Roti Rice Rate, Report

The price of a vegetarian thali in India rose 11% (on-year) to Rs 31.3 in September. Last year in September 2023, the price of veg thali was Rs 28.1. CRISIL gave this information in its monthly indicator of food plate cost released.
Crisil said in the report that there has been no change in the price of vegetarian thali in September compared to the previous month in August. The price of veg thali in August was Rs 31.2.
Non-veg thali 2% cheaper on annual basis Whereas the price of non-veg thali fell by 2% on annual basis in September to Rs 59.3. Last year in September 2023, the price of non-veg thali was Rs 60.7.
On monthly basis, there has been no change in the price of non-veg thali in September as compared to August. In August, the price of non-veg thali was only Rs 59.3.
Prices of onion, potato and tomato increased the price of veg thali. According to CRISIL report, the cost of veg thali has increased due to increase in the prices of vegetables. Vegetables account for 37% of the veg thali cost. This increase in the cost of veg thali has been seen due to increase in the prices of onion (53%), potato (50%), tomato (18%) and pulses (14%) on annual basis. At the same time, LPG cylinder has become cheaper by 11% on annual basis.
The price of non veg thali decreased due to fall in the price of chicken. At the same time, this decline in the price of non-veg thali has come due to 13% decline in the price of broilers i.e. chicken on annual basis. The broiler accounts for 50% of the cost of a non-veg thali.

- CRISIL has calculated the average cost of preparing a thali at home based on current food prices in North, South, East and West India. Monthly changes affect the expenses of the common man.
- CRISIL data also reveals the ingredients that drive changes in the price of a thali, including cereals, pulses, broilers (chicken), vegetables, spices, edible oil and cooking gas.
- Veg thali consists of roti, vegetables (onion, tomato and potato), rice, dal, curd and salad. Whereas for non-veg thali, chicken has been included instead of lentils.
