Arab Finance – Shell begins drilling 3 new gas wells west of the Delta in Egypt within days

At the end of this month, Shell Egypt and its partners will begin drilling three gas wells within the development project of the eleventh phase of the West Delta deep concession in the Mediterranean Sea in Egypt, according to a statement by a senior government official to Al-Sharq.

The official, who requested anonymity, added that the three wells will add about 150 million cubic feet per day of gas by the end of this year, and their initial investments amount to about $230 million.

The start of drilling comes after Shell and the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) reached a commercial agreement on the price of gas produced from the new wells.

The Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources did not respond to requests from Al-Sharq for comment.

The eleventh phase project includes drilling three wells using the “Scarabeo 9” offshore drilling rig, which successfully completed drilling three wells in the tenth phase development project, adding about 170 million cubic feet per day to gas production.
