Arab Finance: Methanx Egypt has announced the safe and successful completion of the construction of a pipeline and the installation of a new transport pump to supply methanol directly from its factory to the Suez Company for Methanol derivatives (SMD) adjacent to Damietta, to cover its entire methanol needs, according to the statement sent on April 14.
The project, which started Viberil 2023 and lasted for 20 months, included the construction of a 450 -meter pipeline starting from engineering, design and purchases to manufacturing, construction and installation of protection and control systems. The project also included the installation of a new methanol transport pump and measuring meters. Depending on the agreement concluded with SMD, Methans will provide maintenance services for the new line throughout the agreement period, as well as the supply of up to 160 tons of methanol per day (58,400 tons of methanol annually).
Ibrahim Makki, Chairman of the Egyptian Holding Company for Petrochemical (Ecknic) said: “The Egyptian Petrochemical Holding Company has succeeded in reaching the amount of methanol sales in the local market to 1.6 million tons from the start of the operation in 2011 to its date in addition to that the Methanol derivative project will increase the annual methanol sales in the amount of about 58 thousand tons annually, which benefits each of the three parties and from the plan. That the Methanol derivative project produce 140 thousand tons annually of specialized products in a way that contributes to meeting part of the local market needs, exporting the surplus and providing a hard currency. “

Hisham Selim, CEO and Chairman of the Suez Company for Methanol derivatives, said: “The Suez Methanol derivatives company is the first company to produce specialized petrochemicals to follow the oil sector. The project is an example of integration with Methans Egypt in addition to several other companies in the sector, whether in the exchange of nutrients or company products or cooperation in providing facilities and equipment manufacturing.
The main products of the project are included in many different applications, the most important of which are fertilizers, wood and concrete, in addition to some specialized resins that produce the first time in Egypt and are used as an adhesive on the internal MDF and high resistance to the external environment and thermal insulation applications, where 50% of these products will be used in the local market, which reduces the amount of import of these materials and thus reduce the dollar burdens of the state, and export Half the remaining amount. “
This project is part of the agreement signed between the two parties in 2023. The San Egypt Company (EMC) presided over the coalition of the project's general contractor, and Johnson Mathi provides the necessary technology for formaldehyde and UFC-85, and Enppi works as a project management consultant. The SMD project is currently being constructed and operating is expected to start in October 2025.
