The Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) has offered the development of the Salamat natural gas field to international oil companies after reclaiming the field from international energy company BP last year, Al-Sharq reported.
The Salamat field, located in the Mediterranean Sea, is one of the largest gas discoveries in Egypt during the past decade, with its reserves estimated at approximately 1.64 trillion cubic feet.
BP's decision to abandon the field stems from a shift in its investment priorities.
The company has chosen to focus on its current deepwater operations in the northwest Alexandria region, where it continues to prioritize production activities.
