November 5 is the date fixed for the presidential elections in America. However, crores of voters across the country have already cast their votes. According to the Election Lab Tracker of the University of Florida, so far 6 crore 80 lakh people have cast their votes in America.
In America, this rule that gives the right to vote before the date fixed for elections is called early voting. Under this rule, citizens who are valid for voting in America are given the right to vote even before voting day. They can vote by using registered email, posting the ballot and visiting the polling station before the voting date.
Talking about New York City alone, around 1,40,000 people cast their votes on the first day of early voting. According to the Board of Elections here, New York has made a record in early voting and it is still going on.
With this facility of early voting, most of the voters are saved from many problems on the day fixed for voting. Be it long queues for voting or bad weather or any other kind of problem at the polling place.
It is noteworthy that in 2020, less than 100 polling stations were set up for early voting. This time in New York alone this figure is more than 50 percent.
