Jammu Kashmir Police: While on one hand the government is motivating the youth of the country to adopt drone technology for their future life, on the other hand an incident has come to light from Kashmir, where this technology was being used to buy and sell drugs. This is the first such case where the police have come across the issue of selling drugs with the help of technology. This new method came to light when the Safa Kadal police station of Srinagar arrested a youth with high technology gadgets including drones and encrypted apps.
Jammu and Kashmir Police in Srinagar have arrested three youths on drug smuggling charges, one of whom is a class 12 student who used a drone to keep an eye on both the police and the buyers while selling drugs. Among the remaining smugglers caught, one is from Athwajan of South Kashmir and the other is from Safa Kadal of Srinagar.
Three drug smugglers arrested
According to Shaukat Dar, Superintendent of Police, Northern Area of Srinagar, the police have arrested three drug smugglers. In which a 19-year-old 12th class student has been arrested with a large quantity of opioids and a high-technology drone in his possession. The accused was on the police radar for a long time, but due to lack of evidence he could not be arrested.
What did the SP say on the arrest?
“For the first time, a high-end drone has been caught in the valley, which was used to track the movement of police and smuggler's customers and it is a worrying thing,” the SP said, before revealing the location of the consignment to the accused customer. Used to deploy drones in his neighborhood and take customers to the place where the consignment was kept under drone surveillance. The drone is a DJI drone, which costs more than Rs 1 lakh.”
Srinagar Police recovered 2.4 kg heroin
Let us tell you that before this, drones were being used by arms and drug smugglers on both sides of the border, but according to the police, this new case has posed another challenge to the police. After terrorism in Kashmir Valley, drugs have become the biggest challenge for the security forces. Srinagar Police has achieved great success in the last 48 hours. Police recovered 2.4 kg of heroin and 2.86 kg of crystal meth (amphetamine) from a vehicle (Ertiga) which came from Delhi, whose registration number was HR11N 7336.
Drugs are being sold indiscriminately in the market
How big a problem drugs are, can also be estimated from the fact that in the last 5 years, more than 700 kg of heroin, cocaine and brown sugar has been seized by Jammu and Kashmir Police, whose value in the market is estimated at Rs 3500 crore. However, many times more drugs than this are being sold in the market, which is being directly linked to the narco-terror models being run from across the border. According to a survey by the Jammu and Kashmir administration in 2019, about 6 lakh people – more than 4.5 percent of the total population of the Union Territory (as per Census 2011) – are drug addicts. 90 percent of them were found to be people aged between 17 to 33 years.
