These special people came on the radar of Income Tax Department in UP, property details of 16 years sought


Lucknow News: People who buy big properties in major districts including the capital Lucknow have now come under the target of the Income Tax Department. The department has now started investigating such people who have purchased large plots or other types of land in the last 16 years. Many ministers, MLAs, big builders and people associated with other businesses seem to be stuck in this list. The Income Tax Department is now preparing to investigate the earnings and expenses of such people. 

The Benami Property Unit of the Income Tax Department has sought from the District Magistrates of all the districts, Vice-Chairmen of Development Authorities and Housing Commissioner a list of people who have purchased plots larger than one thousand square meters from January 1, 2008 to October 2024. These properties have been purchased personally or in the name of a company. These include districts like Lucknow, Noida, Bareilly, Kanpur, Meerut, Ayodhya and Varanasi. 

These people came on the radar of the Income Tax Department.
The Income Tax Department is going to start this investigation under the Benami Property Transaction Act 1988. The department believes that in the last few years, land has been bought and sold on a large scale in many big cities including Lucknow. Since 2008, many people have become rich whose situation was not that good earlier. After which he has bought huge lands. The department believes that black money can be used in this purchase and sale. 

Department asked for property details
The department has received concrete information that some people have purchased property by forming a company or in the name of their relatives or family members. In such a situation, action may be taken against these people under the Benami Property Act. These people have bought land at prime location. The department is very serious regarding this matter. Many ministers, MLAs, builders and businessmen have come on the radar of the department.

Deputy Commissioner Alok Kumar Singh has also started sending notices to such people in this regard from November 5. The department has sought details from the officers of the responsible departments. In which there are clear instructions that if there is any negligence in giving information, then a fine of Rs 25 thousand will be imposed on the officer per default.
