Shimla Masjid Row: Muslim organizations are torn in two in the Sanjauli Masjid case of Shimla. One party is of the opinion to challenge the decision of the Municipal Corporation Commissioner Court. On the other hand, Sanjauli Masjid Committee has given approval to demolish the unauthorized parts.
Let us tell you that on October 5, the Municipal Commissioner's court had ordered the demolition of three unauthorized floors of the five-storey mosque. It was said in the order that the Chairman of the Waqf Board and the Mosque Committee will have to implement the order within two months. All Himachal Muslim Organization (AHMO) has said that it will challenge the order in the court of the appellate authority.
AHMO believes that if necessary, the High Court can also be approached. Whereas Sanjauli Masjid Committee has already given its approval to demolish the unauthorized parts. The Municipal Corporation Commissioner's court had found that the mosque committee had offered to demolish the unauthorized portion on its own. There was a protest on September 12 demanding demolition. A day after 10 people were injured, the Muslim Welfare Committee gave a memorandum to the Municipal Corporation Commissioner and agreed to seal and manually demolish an unauthorized part of the Sanjauli Masjid.
Controversy of Sanjauli Mosque of Shimla
According to a statement issued by AHMO on Wednesday, the members' meeting unanimously concluded that those who had pledged to demolish the unauthorized floors of the mosque had no right to make such a proposal. AHMO spokesperson Nazakat Ali Hashmi said that the order of the Municipal Corporation Commissioner's court is contrary to the facts. He said that the land belongs to the Waqf Board. According to Hashmi, the Sanjauli mosque is 125 years old and the unauthorized floors are not illegal.
Different opinions of Muslim organizations
He said that the approval of the maps is pending with the authorities but the Municipal Corporation Commissioner's court has ordered the demolition of the floors. Sanjauli Masjid Committee Chairman Muhammad Latif was part of the delegation that submitted the memorandum.
He asked who are these people who are holding meetings. “We had already offered to demolish the unauthorized floors of the mosque on September 12 and we have no objection to the order,” he said. We stand by our words.
He said that there should be an investigation as to who is behind such committees. Meanwhile, another member of AHMO Mohammad Afzal said that Latif is the former chairman of the committee and currently he has nothing to do with it. They may have personal opinions.
