Congress had not yet completely recovered from the defeat in Haryana when the party suffered a similar big blow in Maharashtra. Here Congress was hoping that Mahavikas Aghadi would show something amazing and the party would strengthen itself with that trust. But his trust and hopes were dashed in such a way that the party cannot understand how this happened.
In fact, when the assembly elections were held in Haryana earlier, BJP was assuming that the power there was going out of its hands. Big leaders of the party, including PM Modi, did not exert their energy by campaigning in the way that is usually seen in other states. But, during the entire elections, BJP leaders in Haryana did not make any major statement, they just made their strategy and silently implemented it.
On the other hand, the Congress, full of confidence, kept thinking about who will take charge if it comes to power. But, what happened after that was in front of everyone. Today exactly the same has been seen in the trends of Maharashtra. Senior BJP leader and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis himself admitted that he had got more seats than expected.
One factor that was seen was that the way Lok Sabha elections Congress had a disappointing performance in 2017, due to which its bargaining power among its allies had reduced. But, he suffered even greater defeat from his own rebels. Even in Haryana, rebel leaders from his own party, who had come out against him, had defeated many party candidates.
A similar situation was seen in Maharashtra too, where there were many seats which could have gone to the Congress, where the rebel leaders of the Congress party played the role of spoiling the game. That is, on the one hand, due to the defeat in Haryana, the bargaining power of Congress among the allies further reduced, yet the kind of results that came have again given a shock like Haryana.
