Haryana Assembly Election Result 2024: This time many new faces will be seen as members in the Haryana Assembly. These include a former Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, a female wrestler who has participated in the Olympic Games and a former jail officer. The ruling BJP in Haryana is ready to form the government for the third consecutive time in the state, defeating the anti-incumbency wave.
The party won a total of 48 seats in Haryana, which is its best performance so far in the state. At the same time, Congress got 37 seats, while Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) had to be satisfied with two seats. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) could not even open their accounts.
Retired IAS Chandra Prakash won from Adampur.
Retired IAS officer Chandra Prakash, who tried his luck from Adampur assembly constituency on Congress ticket, defeated sitting MLA and BJP candidate Bhavya Bishnoi by a margin of 1,268 votes. Bhavya is the grandson of former Haryana Chief Minister Bhajan Lal. Before him, his father Kuldeep Bishnoi represented Adampur assembly constituency. Whereas, before Kuldeep, Bhajanlal was the MLA from Adampur.
Female wrestler Vinesh Phogat won from Julana
Female wrestler Vinesh Phogat (30), who has represented India in the Olympic Games, contested the elections on a Congress ticket and defeated BJP candidate Yogesh Kumar in Julana by a margin of 6,015 votes. Vinesh had entered the world of politics after announcing her retirement from wrestling. He and Bajrang Punia were at the forefront of the wrestlers' protest in 2023 against the then Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and former BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
In the Paris Olympics, Vinesh became the first Indian female wrestler to reach the final of the Olympics. However, before the final of the 50 kg event, he was eliminated from the competition after being found overweight by about 100 grams.
Aarti Singh Rao wins from Ateli
On the other hand, from Ateli seat of Ahirwal region, international skeet shooter and BJP candidate Aarti Singh Rao defeated Atar Lal of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). Aarti is the daughter of Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh.
Former jailer Sunil Sangwan also won
Sunil Sangwan, former jailer of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, won from Charkhi Dadri seat as a BJP candidate. Former jail superintendent Sunil Sangwan defeated Congress's Manisha Sangwan by 1,957 votes. Sunil Sangwan had recently resigned from his post, taking voluntary retirement.
Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) candidate and great-grandson of former Prime Minister Devi Lal Arjun Chautala won from Rania seat in Sirsa district. Arjun is the son of INLD leader Abhay Singh Chautala, who lost the election from Ellenabad assembly constituency. Aditya Surjewala, son of Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala, entered the assembly by defeating sitting BJP MLA Leela Ram from Kaithal seat.
Aditya is the grandson of Congress leader Shamsher Singh Surjewala, who represented Kaithal several times in the assembly. Randeep has also been an MLA from Kaithal seat. INLD candidate Aditya Devi Lal, son of Jagdish, youngest son of former Prime Minister Devi Lal, won the Dabwali seat. Aditya Devi Lal left BJP and joined INLD.
In Uchana Kalan, which is known as the stronghold of Jats, BJP's Devendra Chatar Bhuj Attri won over Congress candidate Brajendra Singh by just 32 votes. Outgoing MLA from Uchana Kalan seat, Dushyant Chautala of Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) stood fifth. In Mullana (reserved seat), Congress MP Varun Chaudhary's wife and party candidate Pooja Chaudhary won.
BJP's Shakti Rani Sharma emerged victorious from Kalka seat. She is the wife of former Union Minister Vinod Sharma and mother of Rajya Sabha member Kartikeya Sharma. From Sirsa, Gokul Setia of Congress defeated Gopal Kanda of Haryana Lokhit Vikas Party. Setia is the grandson of former Haryana minister Laxman Das Arora.
Kalayat seat went to party candidate Vikas Saharan, son of Congress MP from Hisar Jai Prakash. Vikas defeated former minister and BJP candidate Kamlesh Dhanda in Kalayat.
