While repairing audio cassettes and tape recorders, Gulshan Kumar also started selling cassettes and tape recorders. During this time, he started recording music and making his own cassettes. Gulshan Kumar used to record cassettes while attending bhajans and pujas. At that time the price of one cassette used to be around Rs 30. But Gulshan used to sell his cassettes for Rs 10.

After this he thought of entering Bollywood and went to Mumbai. Gulshan Kumar founded T-Series in 1993. The first film of T-Series was 'Lal Dupatta Malmal Ka' (1989) whose producer was Gulshan Kumar. But T-Series became famous when it met 'Aashiqui' (1990). Lakhs of cassettes of the songs of this film were sold overnight.
