Central forces have been deployed in Manipur as violence escalated after bodies of three women from the Meitei community were found in Jiribam district of Manipur. Officials said that eight more companies of Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) have reached Imphal on Wednesday. A day before this, 11 companies of CAPF had reached Imphal. These forces, consisting of companies of CRPF and BSF, will be deployed in sensitive and border areas of the state.

Officials said that four companies each of CRPF and BSF, which reached Imphal, will be deployed in sensitive and border areas of the state. One of the companies of CRPF is of women battalion.

Center had announced to send 50 new companies of CAPF

Recently, the Center had announced to send 50 new companies of CAPF to Manipur. The step was taken as violence intensified in Manipur. Last week, Congress and BJP offices were vandalized in Jiribam, a hill district of the state. Following this, the angry mob set fire to the houses of BJP and Congress leaders in various areas of Imphal Valley and curfew was imposed there.

Security forces had foiled an attempt to attack the house of Manipur Chief Minister on Saturday evening.

Violence increased after the firing on November 11

On 11 November, there was an exchange of fire between security forces and suspected Kuki-Jo militants in Jiribam district. 10 rebels were killed in this firing. At the same time, three women and three children of Meitei community went missing from a relief camp, after which the violence increased.

220 people have died in caste violence

Let us tell you that since May last year, more than 220 people have been killed and thousands of people rendered homeless in the ethnic violence between the Meitei and Kuki-Jo communities of Imphal Valley.
