Devika Rani kissed onscreen
Actually, the film Karma was released in the year 1933. Devika Rani and Himashun Roy had lip locked in this film. The pair gave a four-minute kiss scene onscreen. In those times, when it was a big deal for the actors to act in films, Devika Rani created a stir by giving a kiss scene. Although this scene was not a love making scene. In fact, Devika is seen kissing the unconscious Himanshu in the film to wake him up.

There was a demand to ban the film
Let us tell you that Devika Rani and Himanshu Rai were husband and wife in real life, that is why both of them had no objection in doing the kissing scene. But this scene of Devika Rani created a lot of uproar. There was even a demand to ban the film. This film was Devika's first film and it was directed by Himanshu Rai.

Devika Rani grew up in England
Born in a rich family, Devika Rani was sent to boarding school in England at the age of nine and grew up there. In 1928, she met Indian film producer Himanshu Rai and married him the next year. He helped with costume design and art direction for Ray's experimental silent film A Throw of the Dice (1929).

Later both of them made their debut with the film Karma. This film was premiered in England in 1933, but it flopped badly in India. However, this film marked the beginning of Devika Rani's successful career in Bollywood. The couple started their own production house named Bombay Talkies, which was one of the “best-equipped” film studios in the country. The studio served as a launch pad for many actors including Dilip Kumar, Leela Chitnis, Madhubala, Raj Kapoor, Ashok Kumar and Mumtaz. The studio's first film was Jawaani Ki Hawa (1935), a crime thriller starring Devika Rani and Najm-ul-Hassan. The entire shooting of this movie was done in the train.
