Delhi Air Pollution: Delhi's air quality once again reached 'severe' category on Saturday (23 November) and the Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 412. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), 20 monitoring stations including Alipur, Anand Vihar, Ashok Vihar, Bawana, Chandni Chowk, DTU, Dwarka, Jahangirpuri, Mandir Marg, Narela, Nehru Nagar, Patparganj, Rohini, Punjabi Bagh, Wazirpur and Mundka. AQI was recorded above 400, which falls in the 'severe' category.

According to CPCB data, the 24-hour average AQI of the city till 4.00 pm on Saturday was 412. An AQI between zero and 50 is considered 'good'. 51-100 is 'satisfactory', 101-200 is 'moderate', 201-300 is 'poor', 301-400 is 'very poor', 401-450 is 'severe' and above 450 is 'very serious' category. 'Severe' category is dangerous for lungs
When AQI reaches 'severe' category, there is a serious impact on health. Especially due to fine particulate matter (PM 2.5), which can penetrate deep into the lungs and enter the blood. This can cause long term health problems.

Vehicles and burning stubble are the main reasons
The Centre's Decision Support System (DSS) for Air Quality Management on Saturday attributed 16.4 per cent of Delhi's pollution to vehicular smoke, which is the main cause of poisonous air. Apart from this, stubble burning in the neighboring states of Delhi is also a major cause of pollution.

Meanwhile, there was a thick layer of fog and smoke in the city during morning and evening hours, due to which visibility was reduced. According to the Meteorological Department, the day temperature was recorded at 29.4 degrees Celsius, which is three degrees more than the average temperature of this season.

The humidity level during the day remained between 96 to 66 percent. The IMD has predicted moderate fog on Sunday, with the maximum and minimum temperatures expected to be around 28 and 12 degrees Celsius respectively.
