Congress Reply to EC: The Congress Party has termed the reply given by the Election Commission on the complaint of irregularities in 20 assembly constituencies in the Haryana Assembly elections as 'vague'. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has written a letter to the Election Commission expressing dissatisfaction over its response and called it 'non-responsive' to Congress' complaints.
On October 9, 2024, Congress had sent a complaint to the Election Commission on alleged irregularities in Haryana elections. He had alleged that irregularities are being committed in these 20 constituencies, due to which it is not possible to conduct fair and free elections.
Commission's reply
The Election Commission had responded to Congress's complaint on October 29. The Commission had said, “The Congress Party should avoid making baseless allegations election after election. Making irresponsible allegations at sensitive times like voting and counting days can lead to public unrest and anarchy.”
But Congress says that in this reply no direct clarification was given on the important points raised by them. The Commission rejected Congress's complaints and said that it has not imposed any special 'exemption' rules. The Commission claims that they are acting only as per their conscience and are avoiding any kind of bias.
Congress's counterattack
Congress says that the Commission's reply refers to a 'normal procedure', while it does not provide clarification on some issues. Congress believes that the Commission's reply is not only vague but also amounts to ignoring their complaints.
Congress alleges that this attitude of the Commission can be fatal for the fair election process. Congress has made it clear that it will continue its struggle against this attitude of the Election Commission. Congress says that it will put pressure on the Commission to take its complaints seriously so that fair elections can be ensured in Haryana.
