Action Against Liquor Mafia: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had recently talked about preparing a list of liquor smugglers. This has been started by the police on Friday (22 November). To strictly enforce the prohibition law in East Champaran district, Motihari Police has taken a big step against the liquor mafia.
The Office of the Superintendent of Police had directed to prepare a panchayat-wise list of liquor mafias, under which the liquor mafias active across the district have been identified. According to this list, a total of 9,538 people have been found involved in illegal liquor trade, which is only 0.001 percent of the district's population of approximately 70 lakh.
Superintendent of Police Swarn Prabhat said that the number of mafias absconding in liquor scandals in the district is 1,273, while 5,755 people are out on bail. Apart from this, 2,510 suspected active liquor mafias have been identified. Statistics indicate that the network of liquor mafia is quite active in the district. At the same time, Motihari Police is continuously making efforts to strictly implement the prohibition law.
After the Panchayat-wise list was prepared, the Superintendent of Police has instructed all the police station in-charges to arrest the absconding liquor mafia as soon as possible, take action to surrender and confiscate their property. Apart from this, the businessmen freed on bail will be kept under strict surveillance and they have been ordered to pay a bond down to Rs 5-10 lakh as well as put their names in the goonda register. Their goonda parade will also be organized in the police station every Sunday, so that their activities can be strictly monitored.
The police have also intensified action against those suspected active liquor mafias, who were till now beyond the reach of the police. Information is being collected against these businessmen and legal action will be initiated soon. Motihari Police has appealed to the people involved in liquor smuggling to join the mainstream of society and improve their lives.
At the same time, Gopalganj Police has announced reward on 50 liquor mafias of UP-Bihar. Apart from Gopalganj, liquor mafia residents of Kushinagar, Deoria and surrounding districts of neighboring state Uttar Pradesh are also included in these. Smuggling cases are registered against liquor mafia in various police stations.
