Inauguration of Uttara Bank’s new ‘Contact Centre’


Agriculture and Home Affairs Adviser Lt. General said that onion import is not being approved for the time being considering the farmers. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.). He said this to reporters after the Annual Development Program (ADP) review meeting at the Secretariat of the Ministry of Agriculture on Wednesday.

The advisor said, “Different circles are pressing for permission to import by showing instability in the market. But keeping in mind the issue of domestic production and fair price for farmers, the government is not allowing import for now. The interest of the farmer is the main one here. Summer onions are also coming to the market, there will be no shortage of onions if they are in full swing next month.’

Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said that many farmers have suffered due to the fall in potato prices this season. He also said that about fifty percent of Aman paddy has been harvested. He expressed the hope of a bumper yield in Aman paddy as the field conditions are favorable.

The adviser on fertilizer prices and stocks said, ‘There is enough fertilizer stock, there is no shortage of supply. Farmers will get fertilizer at a fair price.’

He also said that there is no relation between the price of gas and the increase in the price of fertilizer.

Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said that dealers will be appointed in the units of the country where there are no fertilizer dealers. Old fertilizer dealers will remain under the new policy, but defaulters will be ousted.

The adviser also said that the ongoing recruitment in the Ministry of Agriculture and the agencies under it will be transparent.
