Humanoids are changing the way work is done

The pace at which humanoid robot technology is advancing in China will soon change the way people live and work. Chinese robot maker Ajibot recently hosted an exceptional ‘Robot Gala’ in Shanghai; Where robots participate in the entire event. It shows the robot’s motion control, computer vision and creativity capabilities. Experts say that these robots will work in factories, shops, schools and even hospitals in the future.

China’s rapid advances in humanoid robot technology have brought robots from science fiction movies to real life. Recently, AGIBOT organized Robot Gala in Shanghai. Robots participated in the entire performance of the show. This event showcases motion control, computer vision and creativity of modern robots. Robots are now starting to play a role not only in entertainment but also in factory production. Chang Liu in Reading, UK is developing software that allows users to train robots. Chang Liu, chief executive officer of China Extend Robotics, said, ‘Robotics is a great opportunity to address labor shortages. It can ensure sufficient productivity to meet future societal needs.’

According to China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, 8 out of every 10 humanoid robots sold in the world last year were made by Chinese manufacturers. In China, more than 140 robot manufacturers are currently competing to develop advanced technology. Humanoid robots will be able to perform many human tasks in the future—such as preparing food, delivering parcels or assisting in hospitals. At a recent technology exhibition in London, Agebot showcased robots that can assist teachers and students in the classroom. ‘In China we are already working with a secondary school.

There, I created different courses and lesson plans using robots with the students.’

Training robots takes time and money. But Elliot Wu, assistant professor of machine intelligence at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom, said this process is changing rapidly. He is developing a software through which robots can be taught just by uploading a video.
