Bangladesh Reconditioned Vehicles Importers and Dealers Association (Barvida) says imports are being disrupted due to high dollar value, complications of LC opening and decreasing the car buyer in the market. The image of the car import of Mongla port is no longer the same.
The Mongla Port Authority's traffic department said that on June 7, Hawk's Bay's Automobiles imported 20 cars at Mongla port for the first time. At that time the port speed was sluggish. In the fiscal year 0-6, the import of the car was only 20, it increased to 5,900 in the financial year. Then, in the long run, it reached the highest in the fiscal year 2021-22.
But in the fiscal year 2022-27, the import of cars dropped to 5,3. The next fiscal year, 2021-27 reached a slight growth in 5,900 vehicles. And from May 2021-27 this fiscal year, the car was imported at Mongla port, which is significantly lower than the previous trend.

But the reality is different. Khulna Car Zone proprietor Parvez Haque said the LC had not been opened in the dollar crisis for the last two to three years. Apart from this, the price of the dollar has risen as the price of the car has risen. Earlier, the Xio car that was sold for 1-5 lakhs, is now being sold for Tk. As a result, buyers have decreased naturally, and imports have decreased.
Abdul Haque, the president of Barvida and the proprietor of Hawk's Bay Automobiles, told today's newspaper, “After the government encouraged the government in the 21st, he started importing cars using Mongla port for the first time. The challenge of that time was the reluctance of the navigators and the ship. Personally we started by crossing many obstacles. Then many were interested. However, in the last few years, the import of cars has decreased significantly due to the dollar-crisis, price rise, raising tariffs and the last August after the government's resolution last August. Those who had the money in their hands, they disappear from the market. Now it will take time to create a new ability. '
Abdul Haque said that the sale of the car has dropped by about 5 percent at present, which is creating serious pressure for the traders. The government should create an extortion and harassing business environment.
Deputy Secretary of the Mongla Port Authority Makruzzaman said that after the Padma Bridge was launched, the car was being brought to Dhaka in just four hours. As a result, time and money are being saved. Because of this, the importers were choosing the port of Mongla. But as the sales of the vehicle are reduced as a whole, imports have also decreased.
Makruzzaman said the infrastructure and capacity of Mongla port is much better than ever, which is fully prepared to meet future needs.
The car import of car in Mongla is temporary or long -term signal, depending on the foreign currency market of the country, the recovery of the consumer category and the policy support of the government.
