The Bangladesh government has signed an agreement with the US -based Argent LNG in the United States to supply liquefied natural gas (LNG). Argent LNG is currently developing 20 million tonnes of LNG production in Luziana. They have signed an unconscious (non -Binding) agreement with the Bangladesh government. The government will buy 1 million tonnes of LNG from them a year.
The company said on Friday (January 26th) that the company said the news agency Reuters said.
This is the first LNG supply agreement in the United States after Donald Trump was sworn in as president last Monday (January 26th). According to the parties of the agreement, it is a reflection of the industry's confidence in the new administration's fuel -friendly policy.
Donald Trump has given several executive orders since taking power. These steps also include withdrawal of license suspension of the US Energy Department, which allows the United States to export super -cooled gas to those countries that do not have the United States free trade agreement with countries.
Trump is basically taking these steps to increase the export of LNG in the United States. According to the United States Energy Information Agency, the United States is already the largest LNG exporter in the world and is expected to double its capabilities by 2021.
If the Argent LNG project was completed at the Port Energy at Louisiana, its cargo could be sold to Petrobangla, the state -owned energy company of Bangladesh.
In this regard, Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Ashik Chowdhury told the news agency Reuters, “This agreement will not only ensure reliable fuel supply for the growing industry of Bangladesh but will strengthen our strategic partnership with the United States.”
Bangladesh is looking for a long -term solution for energy needs and is trying to emphasize the use of LNG. However, the country is priced sensitive and in 2022, when the price of LNG rises due to the Russia -Ukrain war, the cheap coal is forced to grow.
Earlier in January last year, Qatar Energy and US -based Accelerate Energy signed a five -year contract to supply LNG. Under the agreement, they will supply 1 million or 1 million tonnes of LNG annually in Bangladesh. The LNG supply will be started from January 2021.
According to the news agency Reuters report, Qatar Energy has recently signed an agreement to supply LNG to European and Asian countries. The country has recently undertaken the North Field Expansion or Extension Project. It is estimated that the LNG production of Qatar will rise to 120 million tonnes by 2021, which is currently 1 million tonnes.
