Recommendation committee to end labor unrest in Beximco Industrial Park


An 11-member advisory council committee has been formed to review the labor and business conditions of industrial establishments in Beximco Industrial Park. A notification in this regard was issued by the Cabinet Division on Sunday (November 24).

It has been said that the government has formed an advisory committee to review the labor and business conditions of Beximco Industrial Park's industrial establishments in order to review the impact caused to the surrounding industrial establishments and public life due to the existing situation of Beximco Industrial Park and to formulate recommendations for measures to be taken in that regard.

The members of the committee are – Convener, Ministry of Shipping and Advisor to the Ministry of Labor and Employment Brigadier General (Retd.) Dr. M Sakhawat Hossain; Member, Ministry of Finance and Advisor to the Ministry of Science and Technology. Saleh Uddin Ahmed; Advisor to Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Agriculture Lieutenant General Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.); Adilur Rahman Khan, Advisor to Ministry of Industry and Ministry of Housing and Public Works; Advisor to Ministry of Commerce and Ministry of Textiles and Jute Sheikh Bashiruddin; Lutfe Siddiqui, Special Envoy for International Affairs of the Chief Adviser.

Other supporting officers are – Executive Chairman, Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA); Secretary, Ministry of Finance; Secretary, Ministry of Commerce; Secretary, Ministry of Labor and Employment; Administrator, Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).

In this committee, the senior secretary will also be included as the secretary.

Scope of Committee

Formulation of recommendations for immediate, medium and permanent solutions to resolve worker dissatisfaction in Beximco Industrial Park and determination of actions to be taken to ensure work environment in similar establishments. The committee can co-opt members if necessary. The Ministry of Labor and Employment will provide secretarial support to this committee.
