The Ordinance has been issued repealing the 'Prompt Extension of Electricity and Fuel Supply (Special Provisions) Act, 2010'. An ordinance repealing the law was issued on Thursday (November 28) after approval by the advisory council. Even if the Act is repealed, contracts entered into under it will not be void. But the government can re-evaluate the agreement if it wants.
Earlier, on November 20, the Advisory Council gave in-principle and final approval to the proposal to promulgate the 'Increasing Rapid Supply of Electricity and Energy (Special Provisions) (Repeal) Ordinance, 2024'. Even if the Act of 2010 is repealed, the contract entered into under that Act will not be cancelled. There are allegations of looting of money through various activities under this law during the Awami League government. After the fall of the Awami League government, the interim government suspended the law.
