Menon-Momtaj's bank accounts seized


Bangladesh Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon and Jatiya Sangsad former MP and musician Mumtaz Begum's bank accounts have been seized. At the same time, instructions were given to freeze the bank accounts of their privately owned institutions.

On Monday (October 14), Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) sent instructions in this regard to banks and financial institutions of the country. All transactions of the person whose account has been frozen and their sole proprietorship business account will be suspended for the next 30 days.

BFIU's letter said that relevant provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Rules will apply to this order of suspension of transactions. In the letter, the names and national identity cards of Rashed Khan Menon and Mumtaz Begum have been given.

The instructions of BFIU further states that the account related information or documents such as account opening form, KYC (Customer Identity) and transaction details should be sent to BFIU within two working days from the date of issue of the letter.
