Expatriate Bangladeshis sent around 240 crore (2.40 billion) USD remittances through legal banking channels in the recently concluded October month. As such, in October, the average daily remittances were 7.73 million dollars.
This information is known from the updated report published by the Central Bank on Sunday (November 3).
As a single month, remittances increased by 21 percent in October this year compared to October last year. In October last year, remittances came in at $197 million. The previous year it was 1.52 billion dollars.
According to the data of the central bank, in the month of October, 72.61 million dollars came through state-owned banks, about 120 million US dollars through a specialized bank, 1.54 billion dollars came through private banks and 7.1 million US dollars came through foreign banks.
In the first month of the fiscal year 2024-25, in July, 191 crore 37 lakh 70 thousand dollars, in August 222 crore 41 lakh 50 thousand dollars and in September 240 crore 47 lakh 90 thousand US dollars came in the country.
In the recently concluded fiscal year 2023-24, expatriates have sent remittances equivalent to two thousand 392 million US dollars. The remittance figure is the second highest ever. The highest remittance in the country's history came in the fiscal year 2020-21 at $2,477 million.
