To keep the price of essential food items within the affordability of the public, the government has reduced the import duty on food products and completely withdrawn them in certain areas. Among these, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has reduced the tax on import of dates by 24.90 percent.
NBR issued two separate notifications in this regard on Thursday (November 21).
NBR believes that the reduction of existing customs duties on date import can reduce the cost of import of dates from around Tk 60 to Tk 100 per kg. Import of dates will increase as a result of reduction of customs duty at the import level. The supply of dates in the market will also increase. The National Board of Revenue feels that the selling price of dates will be within the purchasing power of common people.
According to the NBR, dates are an import-dependent fruit that is an essential component of Iftar for all classes of people. In order to keep dates within the reach of the common man during the holy month of Ramadan, the existing customs duty on import of dates has been reduced from 25% to 15%, advance income tax has been reduced from 10% to 3% and the existing 5% advance tax has been completely withdrawn i.e. the total duty has been reduced from 63.60% to 38%. .70% is fixed.
