Export income increased by 19 percent in October

After the anti-discrimination student movement and the fall of the Awami League government, the country's manufacturing sector is becoming active, which has reflected in exports. Last October, the export earnings increased by almost 19 percent compared to the same period last year.

According to the National Board of Revenue (NBR), Bangladesh exported goods worth US$ 413 million last October. It was $3.48 billion in the same month last year. That is, compared to the previous year, exports have increased by 65 million dollars or 18.68 percent.

However, it is not known in detail from the statistics of NBR how much the export of any sector has increased in last October.

In this regard, Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) president Mohammad Hatem said that factories in Gazipur and Ashulia have been operating for some time. The workers returned to work last month after the protests continued.

Apart from that clothes are shipping for winter season and Christmas festival. He thinks that the speed of export has increased because of that.

The BKMEA president said that due to political unrest, next summer's purchase orders have come in 20 to 25 percent less. However, the purchase order may increase slightly for the coming winter season.

However, due to the gas crisis, production in garment factories is being disrupted, he said, and banks are not able to open loans on time. Therefore, how much garment exports will increase in the future depends on the uninterrupted supply of gas and the support of the banking sector.
