Export earnings increased by 17.72 percent in December


Bangladesh earned 462 million 74 million US dollars from exports in the recently concluded December month, which is 17.72 percent more than the previous financial year.

This information was informed in the updated report of the Export Development Bureau (EPB) on Thursday (January 2). It is said that the export income in December 2023 was 393 crore 9 lakh dollars.

Export earnings from ready-made garments (RMG) in December (2024) increased by 17.45 percent to 377.5 million dollars compared to the same period last year. In 2023 this income was 321 crore 4 lakh dollars.

Of the export earnings of the ready-made garment sector, USD 189.18 million came from knitwear exports, which increased by 16.84 percent year-on-year. Apart from this, 187 crore 87 million dollars came from the export of oven garments, which has decreased by 18.06 percent compared to the same period last year (2023).

According to EPB data, exports of agricultural products, leather and leather products and home textiles increased in December, among other notable sectors. The export earnings of home textiles increased by 20.47 percent to 83.9 million dollars.

And the export of leather and leather products increased by 24.19 percent. Leather and leather products worth $11.9 million were exported in December. Besides, the export income of agricultural products increased by 14.41 percent to 10 million 1 lakh dollars.

It should be noted that 27 types of products including garments, medicine and leather have been exported to the world market during July-December of the current financial year 2024-25. At this time, Bangladesh exported products worth 2,453,350,000 US dollars, which is 12.84 percent more than the same period of the last financial year.
